What about you was converted?

Jesus said in Luke 13:3 "Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." Since Jesus said repent or die, it would be profitable if one understood what repentance means. Some believe that a weekly confession of one's sins suffices Jesus' commandment. Others believe that by a one time confession of faith in Jesus Christ, that grace will now save them in spite of their sins. The Bible supports neither of these beliefs.

The Apostle Paul asked, "Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?" Romans 6:1. I ask you, can you continue to live a sinful lifestyle, after your conversion, and still claim to be a Christian? If so, what about you was converted? Paul answered his question in verse 2, "God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" To continue in sin after repenting is missing the whole point of grace!

God's grace is supplied to save us, not in our sins, but from our sins. Repentance doesn't mean just asking forgiveness, it means a change of mind, a turn around, a lifestyle change, a change of heart. "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death." 2 Corinthians 7:10

If a person says they are sorry and continues to commit the same offense, we know they are not truly sorry. If we have godly sorrow, and are truly sorry for our sins, God will forgive and grant us grace to forsake those sins! Grace is God's help to do that which is right, which we would otherwise be unable to do of ourselves. "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." Proverbs 28:13
